Harley Davidson Leather Jackets Are Fit For All

Harley Davidson leather jackets come in all shapes and sizes and in an incredible 46 styles for both women and men. Some are reflective and others perforated, and you’ll find that these internationally popular motorcycle jackets are manufactured in different colors, from basic black and brown to pink and cream.
This choice of available product is not really surprising since the Harley heralds a cult like none other, and it is followed by leather-clad motorcyclists riders all over the world. It has been said that the Harley Davidson ultimately created a way of life. There’s even a Harley Davidson museum in Milwaukee, home of the famous bike hatched by William S. Harley in 1903.
Visitors can experience the thrill of 450 different motor bikes from the earliest models made, as well as thousands of artifacts, products and Harley-orientated apparel. They can also learn about some of the ordinary people who have owned and ridden Harleys and many of whom regularly wore fashion leather jackets.

Of course the movies have done an enormous amount to promote bikes and car, and also accessories like Harley Davidson leather jackets. In the early 20th century, the Harley Davidson Motor Company was better known as a supplier of army and utility transport for soldiers fighting world wars.
Their image was quite mundane really. But when people saw their screen heroes riding motor bikes, clad in some kind of fashion leather jacket, whether they were motorcycle jackets or flying jackets they were soon following suit – especially the bikers and their followers.

Here are just a few of the best examples of legends who loved Harleys and leather, most of whom are linked to the silver screen.

 James Dean

Teenage icon, James Dean, who was obsessed with motorcycles and fast cars, owned a Harley and probably wore Harley Davidson leather jackets. He, of course made a huge impression on American popular culture, as did the Harley Davidson, which for 46 years (the full second half of the 20th century) was the only motor cycle brand manufactured in the United States.
Pictures of James Dean frequently feature his Harley with him in leather gear. For example, there’s a famous picture of him, called "Brooklyn Nights", wearing a leather coat, cruising the streets of Brooklyn, New York with the lit-up Manhattan skyline behind him. There's a gorgeous poster, "Speedbound" by Austrian artist, Paul Gasenhemier of James Dean and Marilyn Munroe, another iconic actress, on a Harley, both dressed in fashion leather jackets.

 Marlon Brando

A young and handsome Marlon Brando rode a Harley in The Wild One, the risqué, controversial movie first screened in 1953 just a few years after the notorious Hells Angels motorcycle gang was formed in California.
The Hells Angels wear either leather, or denim jackets and vests, with the well-known ‘death’s head’ insignia design plastered all over it. In the movie, Brando and his rebellious ‘Wild One’ buddies were usually dressed in waist-length black leather jackets that could very well have been Harley Davidson leather jackets. But in fact these were Perfecto jackets, a brand of double-style leather motorcycle jacket that was first manufactured in the US in 1928, which makes it the very first of a kind.
These same jackets were also worn by punk rock pioneers, The Ramones, ranked the second-greatest band of all time (after the Beatles) by Spin Magazine in 2002.

 Elvis Presley

The King, Elvis Presley owned several Harleys including a Harley Davidson PanHead and a Harley Dessert , which was a police-type bike. And he loved to dress in Harley Davidson leather jackets.
If you look at old photos taken in the day, you’ll see that he sometimes performed in leather pants and a short, really sexy styled jacket. He was such a legendary sex symbol it is not surprising that manufacturers have designed various leather clothes for his wardrobe and fashion leather jackets.
Apart from motorcycle, or military-style jackets, Elvis-style garments even feature faux leather jackets embroidered and appliquéd with an image of the king of rock and roll. Quite unlike air force bomber or flight jackets, marine, military aviator jackets or motorcycle styles, these have a classic varsity look, with an acrylic waist, sharp shirt collar and tab cuffs.
Then there’s a stunning jacket for women that replicates the one Elvis wore in his Comeback Special in 1968, less than a decade before he died. This one is an authenticated special-design that was custom-made in genuine black leather using the original (which is housed in a glass case at Graceland) as a kind of model or template.
Like James Dean, there are also many posters that feature Elvis in a number of fashion leather jackets.
You can even buy stickers with Elvis wearing one of his many jackets. There is also a range of so-called authentic jackets that honor Elvis together with another icon, Dale Earnhardt who was killed during the February 2001 Daytona 500 when his car hit a wall.
Unlike Harley Davidson leather jackets, these jackets are made from Napa leather and are embroidered with the titles, ‘The Intimidator’ and ‘The King’.
Since the term Napa leather describes leatherized sheep skins, these designs fit the category sheepskin jackets, rather than true leather made from skin or hide.

Evel Knievel

Another icon who owned a Harley was the American motorcycle daredevil, Evel Knievel, and used it to jump cars and other large obstacles in the 1970s. After he died in 2007, the contents of his motor-home and last remaining personal items were sold off by the estate attorneys.
These items included at least two motorcycle jackets, a white one that he wore in most of the photo shoots shortly before his death and a black and red leather mens jacket that he wore at the last Daytona Bike Week he competed in during 2006.

The Marlboro Man

The Marlboro Man from the lengthy Marlboro Cigarette advertising campaign launched in the mid-20th century, was a rough-cut, iconic figure (albeit that several men acted the part). Picture him, laid back and smoking, his rough craggy face as sexy as sin! He was the epitome of the kind of guy many people imagined on the back of a Harley, with his ciggies tucked into his inside pocket – or perhaps sticking out of his top outside pocket.
As a result, Marlboro Man leather jackets and Harley Davidson leather jackets are probably the best known motorcycle jackets there are. Of course the movie, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, which features two motorcycle (supposedly Harley) riders, Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson (the cowboy) as drug-dealing crooks in 1996, is quite a different story although they do wear the right type of fashion leather jackets for the ride!

Leather Jackets For The Rest Of Us

While Harley Davidson leather jackets are intended for motor cycle riders, and they are designed to be protective rather than just fashionable, these ever-popular biker jackets are worn by other people too.
It probably stands to reason since people from all walks of life ride Harleys, saying they feel a great sense of freedom, camaraderie and pride every time they fire up their motorcycles and take off down the road.

Harley Davidson clothing (and accessories) isn’t restricted to motor cycle jackets either. Apart from the usual motor cycle accessories you’d expect to buy for men and women, the brand even offers bath robes, watches, beanies, woven tops, embroidered tops, T-shirts, canvas jackets, long sleeved shirts, mens hooded leather jackets, waterproof over-pants, windproof fleece hoodie jackets, nylon bomber jackets, high visibility military-type vests, and rain jackets.
Alongside the Harley Davidson leather jackets you’ll even find Harley-Davidson® denim and knit shirts, and T-shirts, and long boots that look incredibly stylish.
Of course when you talk about fashion leather jackets of any type, it’s all got a huge amount to do with image. That’s why manufacturers have keyed into icons – like Elvis, James Dean, Marlon Brando and the rest.
While most of these jackets are black, you’ll often find that a brown leather motorcycle jacket is modeled on bomber jackets that were worn by the military. American film stars who have made the brown-color jacket popular include:

• Jimmy Stewart who starred in comedies, thrillers and
Westerns (which is where the brown leather jacket fits in).
• Gary Cooper who made a name for himself in Westerns.
• Harrison Ford when he starred in Indiana Jones.

Of course you will also be able to find a brown leather jacket for women. The selection is amazing too, from plain dark brown, beautifully stylish Michael Kors designs to quite inexpensive faux leather jackets with ruffled fronts.

If you’re looking for leather motorcycle jackets for women, then Harley Davidson leather jackets are a great place to start. They also have leather motorcycle jacket armor that is perfect for extra protection – for men as well as women.

But there are also long iconic fashion leather jackets like those worn by action heroes including Steven Seagal, Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne who starred in the hugely successful Matrix movies.

It just goes to show, the long and the short of it is that you can choose them big or small!
